"This work represents a photograph of my mother in which two people making love are reflected. Titled Us, I wanted to question the notion of presence and representation through different spaces and times. Who is truly present in this work? Is it my mother, represented in the form of a photograph? Is it the couple making love, present in the room where the photograph is framed? Or is it the viewer themselves, who, looking at the image, no longer sees their own reflection but that of another space-time, far beyond the exhibition?

 

The idea for this work came to me in 2013, when I was diagnosed HIV+ and had to reveal this news to my loved ones, particularly my parents. Where? When? How? With whom? Why? These unspoken questions, but visible on their faces, made me realize the uncomfortable exposure of my sexual intimacy, inseparable from the revelation of this illness."

 

 

"Cette œuvre représente une photographie de ma mère dans laquelle se reflètent deux personnes faisant l’amour. En l’intitulant Us, j’ai voulu interroger la notion de présence et de représentation à travers différents espaces-temps. Qui est réellement présent dans cette œuvre ? Est-ce ma mère, représentée sous forme de photographie ? Est-ce le couple faisant l’amour, présent dans la chambre où la photographie est encadrée ? Ou est-ce le spectateur lui-même, qui, regardant l’image, ne voit plus son propre reflet, mais celui d’un autre espace-temps, bien au-delà de l’exposition ?

 

L’idée de cette œuvre m’est venue en 2013, lorsque j’ai été diagnostiqué VIH+ et que j’ai dû révéler cette nouvelle à mes proches, en particulier à mes parents. Où ? Quand ? Comment ? Avec qui ? Pourquoi ? Ces questions non formulées, mais visibles sur leurs visages, m’ont fait prendre conscience de l’inconfortable exposition de mon intimité sexuelle, indissociable de la révélation de cette maladie."
